Overview

The Humber Teaching School is well placed to respond to the challenges of school improvement. Due to the outstanding experience and expertise from across The Humber Teaching School Alliance (TSA) we can offer a plethora of support across all phases and contexts. We can provide schools in need of support with a task force of leaders, teachers and school practitioners, experts in their respective fields and qualified and trained to support others to improve teaching, learning outcomes and numerous other aspects of school leadership.

The Humber Teaching School has a highly successful track record in school-to-school support mainly due to our steadfast commitment to supporting schools in a bespoke and personalised way. We believe that there is no 'one-size-fits-all' approach and always seek to fully understand and evaluate differing school dynamics ahead of helping to bring about change.

How could the HTS support StSS?

HTS utilises its extensive system leadership network to ensure that high quality support is sourced. Dependant on the nature of request, HTS would be able to broker a deal to utilise;

  • Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE)
  • Local Leaders of Education (LLE)
  • National Leaders of Education (NLE)

What is system leadership?

Put at its simplest, system leadership refers to the form of leadership that goes beyond the individual school to influence the education, achievement and well-being of children and young people more widely. In a local area or region, the best schools and leaders extend their reach across other schools so that all schools improve. There is a system focus on collaborative partnerships, sharing expertise and identifying and disseminating high leverage best practice. System leaders realise that classroom, school and system impact on one another and seek to engage with this in a meaningful way.

Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE)

Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) are outstanding middle or senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. They have a particular area of expertise and a successful track record of sustainable school improvement.

SLEs provide school-to-school support and peer-to-peer learning. They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of expertise looks like and are skilled in helping other leaders to achieve it in their own context.

SLEs can undertake a range of activities, for example, one-to-one peer coaching, facilitated group support, data analysis, audits, diagnostics, joint action planning, coaching and delivering workshops and professional development.

Due to the vast experience and expertise within our SLE team, the Humber Teaching School can also design a bespoke service to meet an institution's individual needs.

Local Leaders of Education (LLE)

Local Leaders of Education (LLEs) are highly successful Headteachers or Principals with a proven track record of effective school improvement and supporting other schools. They have the capacity to work alongside other Headteachers to drive forward improvements and build capacity to ensure that improvements can be sustained.

The aim of the Local Leaders of Education Programme is to improve pupil outcomes through partnership working between schools and academies.

National Leaders of Education (NLE)

National Leaders of Education (NLEs) are outstanding Headteachers or Principals who, together with the staff in their schools (designated National Support Schools), use their skills and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances.

In addition to leading their own schools, NLEs work to increase the leadership capacity of other schools to help raise standards.

How to Acquire Support

If your institution requires support, we would identify from our extensive range of leaders who possesses the precise skills and experience to provide the level of support required.

The cost of support will be determined by a number of factors, including the need, length and focus of any agreed work. Models and types of deployments can vary. Deployments could be for a single or few days to provide immediate support and diagnosis of issues discussed, or may be for significant periods of time with a leader deployed in a school on perhaps one day per week for a term, to provide bespoke support.

Quality Assurance

All leaders deployed by The Humber Teaching School will be monitored for the quality of the support they provide. They will be expected to be able to evidence that their work has had a positive impact using a range of indicators including examination results, learner progress, reduction within in-school variation and the improved quality of teaching and learning.

The Teaching School will liaise closely with the school requesting support to ensure all agreed outcomes at the start of the deployment have been achieved.

Before a leader is deployed, a brokerage contract will need to be completed to outline specifically what the area of focus is, the agreed timescale of the deployment, funding agreement and impact measures.
